"City,” a show of recent paintings by Susanne Strater, will be at the gallery from May 6-12.  The paintings reflect Susanne’s fascination with the configuration of roof and building shapes in cities both near and far away.  Many are taken from a higher vantage point, which obscures the horizon line and allows the scene to be built up out of many small geometric shapes, much like a quilt.  This process of building a painting carries over into some interior scenes as well.

The paintings are primarily in pastel, which has become Susanne’s favorite medium.  A pastel workshop, addressing some techniques for using pastels to paint from life and from photos, will be held at the gallery in conjunction with the show.  For more information on the workshop, please call Susanne at 514-428-9738 or email her at scstrater@videotron.ca.
