Tree Root Sculptures

Pranas Baltuonis studied painting and sculpture in his native Lithuania and at the Montreal Museum of Fine Arts. This exhibition is a tribute to his memory and an opportunity to view and purchase his unique sculptures.

"Just as each and every root is different from the other, so are all my finished works distinct, as each root requires a separate and original idea. Neither I nor anyone else could possibly duplicate any one of these works. They are original and unique.

My source of tree roots varies. Some I drag out from lakes and rivers and some must be uprooted from the earth. And from this primitive root, it is possible to create a work of art."
