I was born in Riga, Latvia. In my school days, I was told by my teachers that I was one of the best in art class. My first mediums were watercolour and ink.
I started using oil when I immigrated to Canada in 1948. I took private and semi-private classes with Otto Grebze (most famous for his 8 foot paintings on the walls of the Hydro Pavilion, EXPO 67 in Montreal). Later I studied pastels with Hungarian artist Leslie Schalk and nude drawings at the Museum of Fine Arts in Montreal.
Now I work with acrylics.
Since my youngest son died in a car accident, I enjoy painting eyes . . . I start with the eyes and then . . . the rest . . .
I have participated in numerous art shows in Canada and have paintings in private collections in the USA, Canada and Israel.
The proceeds from this show will go to children’s camps in Quebec (e.g. Dans la Rue). For example, a new roof is urgently needed! Income tax receipts will be given for the equivalent value of the paintings.
